Zeynep Fadıllıoğlu founded the company that bears her name in 1995. That name swiftly became synonymous with a style that is both bold and comfortable, and references the past in a contemporary way.Zeynep’s approach is best explained by her unique upbringing.
Her family lived in an Italian palazzo on the European shores of Istanbul’s Bosphorus Straits with a view of Asia spread before them. As a child she was surrounded by Sevres and Meissen, and the odd piece of Fabergé. There were also Ottoman furnishings, as well as locally-crafted pieces from the neighbourhood carpenter. In summer, Zeynep swam races with the fishermen’s kids. In winter she went skiing in the mountains, became a national downhill champion, “faster than the men.”
Not surprisingly, Zeynep glides effortlessly through a myriad of cultural influences. She brings to her work a natural confidence and intimacy. There is a fearlessness and a sense of movement, a love of color and texture, and a deep appreciation of the relation between space and light.Zeynep’s work is individual, and immediately recognisable, yet it emerges naturally from her clients’ own needs and personality. If she takes them somewhere unexpected, in their hearts it is where they always wanted to be.
Zeynep Fadıllıoğlu promotes an interdisciplinary approach, becoming as much an école as a design studio, with a dedicated staff skilled in Arts, Crafts, Design, Architecture and Product Design. Over the years Zeynep has built up a team of 35 very special people, all experts in their field, aware of history and tradition, constantly researching, but always alert for something new. One of the company’s hallmarks is the ability to attract acclaimed artists and artisans. Her collaborators are the very best.
Among the multitude of projects Zeynep has designed are private residences, luxury hotels, high end restaurants and clubs, company headquarters, flagship jewelry stores, and private yachts. Ongoing work also includes the creation of set designs and special events for corporations and private clients. She is credited with being the first woman ever to design a mosque—the Şakirin Mosque in the Üsküdar district of Istanbul, which was nominated for the prestigious Aga Khan Award for Architecture.
With offices on the Bosphorus in Istanbul and in London’s Knightsbridge, and with commissions around the globe, Zeynep Fadıllıoğlu is an international brand. Zeynep’s company has a great deal of experience in project management, planning and logistics overseas. Procurement is an integral part of every assignment, along with the undertaking to get the best result at the right budget.
In 2012 Zeynep launched the Zeynep Fadıllıoğlu Product Range. Every piece of the product line, each element of interior design, tells a story that is part of its function. Zeynep Fadıllıoğlu forges an atmosphere that is original, yet effortlessly welcoming. Achieving this balance requires the utmost creativity, and also skill, dedication and hard work. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts, but each part reflects a deep understanding of materials, handicraft and manufacturing technique.
“Timelessness” is a big word, but it perfectly describes Zeynep Fadıllıoğlu and the team’s commitment to creating something distinctive, beautiful and enduring
