El mundo Arabe y América Latina

Description

This book is essentially a series of studies devoted to Arab immigration to Latin America from the second half of the 19th century and during the 20th century. Although Arab immigrants from Lebanon, Syria and Palestine were smaller in number than Spaniards or Italians, their dynamism, industriousness and spirit of initiative contributed powerfully to the development of their adopted countries. Descendants of Arabs, both Christian and Muslim, today participate in all spheres of national life in the different countries where their parents, grandparents or great-grandparents settled, and their integration into the host societies can generally be considered successful. The book also deals with other issues related to the literature of this migratory group, first in Arabic (adab al-Mahyar) and then in the language of the host countries; exchanges in the field of translation of literary works from Spanish and Portuguese into Arabic and vice versa; and finally, the image of the Arab world in the Latin American press, analysed through the Gulf War.ABSTRACTO: Esta obra comprende fundamentalmente una serie de estudios consagrados a la inmigración árabe en América Latina desde la segunda mitad del siglo XIX y durante el siglo XX.
