Abuja National Mosque, also known as also known as the Nigerian National mosque, is located in the capital city, Abuja.
Built in 1984, the mosque is one of the most important religious sites in Nigeria and is a symbol of the country’s rich cultural heritage. Its unique design incorporates both traditional and modern elements, blending the ancient Islamic style with modern Nigerian aesthetics. The Design was made in such a way that the mosque has an imposing view that can be seen from various parts of the City center and environs.
The architecture of the mosque is featured by distinctive gold anodised, aluminium shingled domes. There are five golden domes: one large dome that is visible from miles away and four small domes. Also there are four different minarets, each on every corner of the religious building, 120 meters in height. In addition to corner minarets, there is a tiled sloped façade, muqarnas decoration above the entrance with calligraphy and tile work framing the mosque door.
The mosque complex comprise the main prayer hall which can accommodate up to 10,000 worshipers, a library, conference hall capable of serving five hundred persons, the office for the Islamic Centre, and residential facilities for the imam and muezzin.
The general contractors were Lodigiani Nigeria Ltd. while design consultancy was provided by AIM Consultants Ltd.
