Islam in Mexico: the Muslim Chamula Indians of Chiapas – Islam en México: los indígenas chamulas musulmanes de Chiapas

Description

Islam arrived in San Cristobal de las Casas, capital of the state of Chiapas in Mexico, in the 1990s by the hand of Spaniards who wanted to join the Zapatista struggle.  Its message settled among the Chamula Indians and was passed down through families. Today there are at least 300 people who profess their faith in Allah. The motto of their community is “love for all, hate for none”.
